About me...

I am a co-director of Head-Line Communication Ltd, an organisation with over thirty years' experience of developing innovative training and learning materials. As a trained psychologist and information engineer my specialism is developing, delivering and evaluating training which is appropriate for its delivery context, and which brings about measurable, targetted changes in skills, knowledge, attitudes, confidence and behaviour.

Currently, I am working on an exciting new initiative for schools. Do it... write!! prioritises learning through doing in order to dramatically improve young people's writing.

Past projects include

Reeltime College: I was technical director of Reeltime College, a highly innovative online learning platform set up in 1995 to help newcomers to computing, working without the aid of a personal tutor. The platform was overwhelmingly successful against its objectives; over 450,000 people learned there, and completing students were guaranteed new skills by the design of the system which blocked completion of the course unless and until the learner had actively and successfully interacted with real software, rather than simulations.

arts4schools: From 2001 - 2009 I was co-director of arts4schools, an arts education company I set up alongside Maria Evans. Together we ran a number of very successful projects, including the arts4schools website; a high profile innovative conference: Inspiring Tomorrow's Audiences.

Creative Science: This was a Wellcome Trust/Department for Education commission for the training of science teachers: Creative Science: Dramatically Different Approaches.

Hyper-Lynx: Prior to setting up arts4schools I co-managed Hyper-Lynx, an education and training organisation that provided a range of services, including the development of the Royal Shakespeare Company's first education website, and a consultancy on developing multimedia training materials for the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Organisations I have worked with

Capita, JHP Group, British Telecom, The Department for Education and Employment, The Wellcome Trust, The Law Society, The Sunday Times, the Royal Shakespeare Company, LONSAS (London Schools Arts Service).

I was for a number of years chair of the Federation of Independent Trainers and have been a past advisor to the Department for Education and Employment.
